Community Celebrates OMS Top 50

OSWEGO, NY – Parents, educators and community members came together to honor this year’s Oswego Middle School “Top 50.”

For the fourth consecutive year Oswego Sunrise Rotary, PathFinder Bank and the Oswego City School District joined forces to congratulate the top seventh and eighth grade students at the Oswego Elks Club.

The “Top 25” Oswego Middle School eighth graders were recognized at the Oswego Elks Club.Superintendent of Schools David Fischer recognized the outstanding attitude.

He noted, “You are the cream of the crop, the top seventh and eighth graders in your class” and he congratulated them for their academic success.

This year’s top 25 eighth graders included Kaitlyn Armstrong, Tayler Bowman, Paul Bradshaw, Michael Carey, Ernesto Cedillo, Austin DeMott, Danielle Faivus, Victoria Frazier, Monica George, Sarah Gosek, Abigail Haessig, Emily Kolenda, Alejandro Lara, Daniel Maniccia II, Rebecca Martin, Mary Montagnola, Ryan Patrick, John Phillips, Caroline Reynolds, Marycatherine Rice, Eve Simmonds, Matthew Skinner, Miguel Vazquez Alonzo, Cyndney Ward and Marcus Wolf.

The “Top 25” Oswego Middle School seventh graders were honored recently.Seventh graders earning recognition included Sarah Mancuso, Dylan Lavner, Alyssa Ferreira, Jeremy Galvin, Erin Chetney, Lisette Dufore, Mackenzie Palmer, Tess Gordon, Frederick Johnson, Victoria Jaskula, Courtney Kelly, David Culeton, Jacob Annal, Leah Weiss, Christina Abare, Ariana Gilbert, Elisabeth Michaud, Nicole Brown, Jason Lowery, Travis Kearns, Joseph Bertonneau, Carly Hewitt, Connor Riley, Gordon Pan and Jeff Wallace II.

Oswego Middle School Principal Connie Evelyn said, “I can’t tell you how proud we are of our highest achieving students. There are so many distractions that could pull at you, but you have overcome obstacles and have focused on achieving your goals. Thank you for giving us inspiration.”

The Oswego Sunrise Rotary, PathFinder Bank and Oswego School District hosted the annual Oswego Middle School “Top 50” event. In front are Dylan Lavner, Elizsabeth Michaud, Victoria Frazier and David Culeton. While among the speakers were Superintendent of Schools David Fischer, Board of Education President Maggie Tiballi, Oswego Middle School Principal Connie Evelyn and Sunrise Rotarian George Reed.Board of Education President Maggie Tiballi summed up the evening as she quoted a statement from “The Great Debaters” that she thought was very appropriate for the students.

She noted, “We do what we have to do in order to do what we want to do.”
