OSWEGO – Compass Federal Credit Union has announced that Assistant Manager, Denise Grinnell, is set to retire in January of 2021 following a 32-year tenure.
Grinnell’s career with Compass Federal Credit Union, then Alcan Employees Federal Credit Union, began in March of 1989 as a part-time teller, before moving to full-time in 1993.
In March of 1996, the credit union opened a new full-service branch on the west side of Oswego, with Grinnell promoted to Branch Manager. Over the course of the next ten years, this new branch in the center of Oswego attracted more than 1,500 new members, helping to move the credit union into its next chapter.
That next chapter came in 2006 with the opening of the credit union’s current main office at 131 George St. in Oswego. This transition saw Grinnell appointed as Assistant Manager, a position she has held for more than 14 years.
Under Grinnell’s guidance, Compass Federal Credit Union has seen tremendous growth, now serving more than 7,000 members with six locations across Oswego and Fulton, including mergers with Oswego Heritage Credit Union and Oswego Hospital Credit Union.
During her time with Compass, the credit union’s services for members have expanded to include mortgage and home equity loans, credit card services, money market accounts and more.
“It has been a pleasure knowing that for the last 30 years I can come to work and help people every day,” said Grinnell. “Whether it is our members or our employees, knowing that I can help people is what has motivated me over the years.”
In retirement, Grinnell looks forward to travelling and spending more time with her family, including her three grandchildren.
Grinnell’s final day in the Compass Federal Credit Union main office will be January 29, 2021.
Training has been underway for Grinnell’s successor, Sue Fowler, who will take over as Compass Federal Credit Union’s Assistant Manager upon Grinnell’s retirement. Fowler has been with Compass since 2016, currently serving as the credit union’s Compliance Officer and has more than 20 years of experience in the banking industry.
