SANDY CREEK, NY – At about 3:08 p.m. today (Dec. 31), members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office were called to the northbound lane of I-81 in the town of Sandy Creek for a car/pedestrian fatal motor vehicle accident.
Also on the scene were members of the New York State Police, NOCA and Sandy Creek Fire Department.
While traveling north on I-81 in the same vehicle, Eric P. Suarez, 27, and Heather R. Robbins, 29, observed an occupied vehicle down an embankment on the east shoulder of I-81.
They stopped their vehicle on the shoulder of the roadway, exited and approached the vehicle down the embankment on foot.
A 2003 Chevy Impala operated north on I-81 by Jennifer L. Southard, 19, left the roadway on the east shoulder, down the embankment striking Eric P. Suarez and Heather R. Robbins, deputies said.
Eric P. Suarez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Heather R. Robbins was transported by NOCA to University Hospital to be treated for her injuries.
Jennifer L. Southard was the only occupant of the 2003 Chevy Impala and was not injured.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
