Firefighters Quell Fire At Nursing Home

Provided by Oswego Fire Department

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego Fire Department responded to a fire at the Pontiac Nursing Home, 303 East River Road this afternoon (Sept. 20).

The alarm was received at 1:32 p.m. with units arriving four minutes later reporting smoke coming from the top of the structure.

Crews forced entry into a janitorial storage room and extinguished a fire in that room.

The room was heavily charred and ventilation of the basement area where the janitorial room was located was done.

At no time were any of the residents in danger as the location of the room was on the ground level, not close to any resident rooms.

The cause appears to be accidental with warm cleaning rags falling into a container with other cleaning materials in it.

All units were back in service at 2:20 p.m. missing or outdated ad config
