Fishermen Urged to use Caution on Salmon River Thursday

Submitted by Oswego County

Altmar – Patricia Egan, Director of the Oswego County Emergency Management Office, has issued an advisory for fishermen on the Salmon River due to high water conditions.

Egan said Brookfield Renewable Power, Inc. has informed her that the hydro stations on the Salmon River will be releasing a little more water than usual through the hydro station gates beginning Wednesday evening, March 9, and continuing for a 24-hour period.

Brookfield is releasing the water to make room in the Salmon River Reservoir for more rain forecast for the area Thursday and Friday. The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the Salmon River area.

Flooding is not anticipated; however, Egan said fishermen should be very cautious in and around the Salmon River due to the higher levels. She also reminded area residents to continue to monitor weather reports over the next few days.
