OSWEGO, NY – Old Man Winter returned with a vengeance Tuesday.

Nearly a foot of snow fell on Oswego by about 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Oswego city schools are on a two-hour delay due to the heavy snowfall. Trinity Catholic School is also operating under a two-hour delay and the Pre-K program will begin at 11 a.m. today.

“It’s not pretty out there,” said Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service.

The snow began falling heavily just around 4 p.m. Tuesday, he noted. It was accompanied by several blasts of thunder and lightning.

“We had some rather loud thunder going through our area from around 4:15 until after 4:45,” Gregway said. “Three inches of snow fell from 4 to 5 p.m. I measured again at 8 p.m. and we’d received another 5.5 inches. Over all, there’s probably 10 inches or more by 11 p.m.”

The localized snow band remained over portions of the Oswego area through the night.

Even though the temperature stayed at 30 degrees or less, the snow was “full of water,” Gregway pointed out. missing or outdated ad config
