OSWEGO – Mayor Corradino has proclaimed July 26th, 2024, the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and encourages all Oswego residents to “observe this day to celebrate this defining moment in civil rights law.” The law was signed in 1990, and this landmark legislation prohibits discrimination against disabled citizens and ensures equal opportunity in work and housing.
“It enshrines the idea central to the spirit of our nation, that all of us are deserving of equality, dignity, respect, and opportunity,” said Corradino while reading a proclamation alongside 3 people from Arise, an agency that assists people who seek to live independently despite any disabilities.
A pro-housing community pledge was adopted in resolution 207. The pro-housing community pledge is an initiative to increase the housing stock of the state. The grant will be used to eliminate and redevelopment of “blighted structures.” Oswego applied for a $1.5 million grant through the Restore New York program, and Corradino hopes that the grant will allow for renovations without using city funds.
Resolution 200 approved a wedding reception in August at the Marina Pavilion. Two hundred two authorized a public hearing for Local Law #1 of 2024. 203 and 204 both regarded renovations in Oswego, specifically regarding Riverwalk West. 206 allocates funds for Conway Municipal Building to renovate the roof and a facelift. 210 sees another grant being used to create more Pickleball courts for Oswego residents to enjoy. The grant is for $240,000. The addition of bathrooms to Oswego Skatepark was also discussed, as the Corradino and council members all admitted it’s an issue that needs to be soon addressed, as they have been receiving phone calls from Oswego residents.
