Live-Stream Sporting Events Discussed At Oswego Common Council Meeting

OSWEGO – Implementation of live-streaming sporting events at Oswego’s Crisafulli Ice Rink were discussed during last night’s Common Council Meeting, September 14.

The City of Oswego will now provide live/on-demand streaming of sporting events at the ice rink for public use, with a monthly subscription fee.

Venue owner LiveBarn Inc. will support the streaming services. LiveBarn Inc. is a fully automated sports broadcast system that delivers live/on-demand video and audio streaming to internet connected devices subscribed to their services.

The monthly subscription services will be advertised at the rink for public use and information; account holders using a unique city code while utilizing the services.

Funds from the monthly subscription will generate 30% revenue back into the city; the monies being placed into the Ice Rink Capital Reserve Account. There will be no added cost to the city for this service.

“This is a serviceman contract that once we open up the ice rinks in the middle to end of October, this will allow the games to be live-streamed so that parents, family members [and] friends can watch the games without attending in-person,” Mayor Billy Barlow said.

Other topics covered throughout meeting included authorization for a public hearing for a zone change at 103 Fifth Ave. on the Westside of Oswego.

The zone modification would switch the property from a Traditional Neighborhood 2 (TN2) District to a Traditional Business (TB) District.

“This is a very minor zoning change. The person petitioning the zoning change is the owner of The Blues up on Fifth Ave, now known as Apartments on Fifth,” Barlow said. “If you look at the buildings from a few years ago, you’ll see that now there’s a huge improvement to the building. Before the Code Enforcement Department actually prompted a lot of the renovations because the buildings were becoming close to unsafe to occupy.”

Sal Vasapolli, owner of Apartments on Fifth, rehabilitated the once defunct housing structures, the buildings now turned into refined, luxury student and family housing.

Vasapolli is looking to take a wooded, vacant parcel of land located across the street from Apartments On Fifth, and replicate the rehabbed buildings, due to high housing demands.

An amendment to have the public hearing at the McCrobie Building instead of City Hall was passed. All Common Council and Committee Meetings will be held at the McCrobie Building until further notice due to renovations taking place at City Hall.

Common Council Meetings are held the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. All resolutions were passed. You can locate the Common Council Agenda on this link.
