OSWEGO – Mayor Billy Barlow announced today five Oswego police officers are being recognized for their heroic actions while on-duty in the city of Oswego recently. Officer Brady Slimmer and Officer Scott Verburg were issued the “Life Saving Award” by Mayor Barlow and Chief of Police Phil Cady while Officer Travis Dunn, Officer Stephen Weber, and Officer Joshua Martin received the City of Oswego Mayoral Commendation recognition.
“The Oswego Police Department and our officers are some of the best in the business and I respect the selfless work they do around our community day in and day out,” said Mayor Billy Barlow. “It is my honor to recognize these individuals, not only for their actions during these specific instances, but for the work they do each and every day.”
The Life Saving Award was issued to Slimmer and Verburg for their quick action in rendering medical aid to a person suffering a life-threatening injury. The officers quickly responded to the scene, rendered aide to a deep laceration to an arm, worked to stop the bleeding by applying a tourniquet and, as a result, saved the individual’s life.
Officers Dunn, Weber, and Martin were issued the Mayoral Commendation following their response to a fisherman in the Oswego River who dropped his phone in the water and attempted to retrieve it during which he fell into the raging and icy cold river. Officers were able to locate the individual and pull him from the water.
Phil Cady, Chief of the Oswego Police Department, said, “I am proud of these officers for being so prepared, reacting swiftly, and doing their best to produce a positive outcome in both these situations. I thank Mayor Barlow for taking the time to recognize these great officers and for his continued support of the men and women in blue out on the streets serving the city of Oswego.”
