OSWEGO – Discussions for the implementation of a new Athletics Director’s office was presented during the OCSD Board of Education Meeting last night, Nov. 4.
The project was brought up two weeks earlier during the last meeting, the Board wanting more information before a decision was made. Superintendent Dr. Mathis Calvin III presented a thorough report, outlining specifics about the plan.
Discussions for a new AD’s office/location began in June of 2019. The former facility was located at the Oswego High School in an existing classroom opposite the Orchestra Music Room.
With modifications to the Music Program, the existing AD’s office required relocation, a new plan presented to the District Team in April/May of 2019.
Potential locations included one of the new stadium buildings, the Frederick Leighton Elementary School (FLS) near District Offices, Oswego High School locations, FLS’s Main Office and the FLS OT/PT room.
After narrowing the decision down to three options, it was determined that the FLS location was the best possible choice.
The new AD’s Office will be located by the front doors of FLS for ease of access, including ample space for a secretary, the Athletic Director’s Office and a large back room for equipment storage.
The new office location will offer the best placement for the Districts use and needs, maintaining functionality for 20 or more years, with a cost effective bid attached.
Work will include interior alterations, additional lighting, electrical work and added windows with views of incoming buses and the fields.
“My recommendation is that we move forward with the process and just go ahead and get the work done. My feeling is we really do need the work done and if we’re going to do it, I think this is a good time to do it,” Calvin said.
“We have people already on the ground who are ready and willing to do the work. But I think, personally, as I said in the last meeting, I do feel the site, the location, the scope – that it is very appropriate, that it would meet the needs of the district. So I would recommend that. However, I am very open to the feedback from the board and the direction that the board would like to take.”
At the end of the plans review, the board unanimously voted to move forward with the project renovations at the FLS location.
Following are topics also discussed during last nights meeting:
