OPD Announces Burglary Arrests

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego City Police Department recently made multiple arrests as the result of investigations into area burglaries.

On July 17, 17-year-old Estevan L. Gonzalez, of 23 E. VanBuren St., Oswego, was arrested and charged with Burglary in the Second Degree, a class C Felony, and Petit Larceny, a class A Misdemeanor.

The charges stem from a burglary which occurred at 63 E. Sixth St., Oswego, on July 16.

Oswego Police responded to the residence after the complainant contacted 911 to report the incident.

Gonzalez is alleged to have been in the residence for a short period of time, and upon being seen by the complainant he immediately fled, at which time the complainant discovered numerous items to be missing including a cell phone and jewelry.

Gonzalez was located the following day in a neighboring apartment, where upon a search of that apartment the stolen property was also recovered.

On July 20, 32-year-old Robert E. Kennedy, of 92 Eisenhower Ave., Oswego, was arrested and charged with Burglary in the Third Degree, a class C Felony, and Petit Larceny, a class A Misdemeanor, in connection with a burglary which was reported at McCarthy’s Bar, located at 91 Tallman St., Oswego, on June 14.

Also charged in the McCarthy’s burglary was 32-year-old Jason T. Evans, of 16 Mitchell St., Oswego.

Kennedy and Evans are alleged to have forcibly entered McCarthy’s Bar and stole approximately $1,000 in cash.

Also on July 20, Kennedy was charged with Burglary in the Second Degree, a class C Felony, and Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a class D Felony, in connection with a burglary which was reported at 539 W. Fifth St., Oswego, on June 26.

Kennedy is alleged to have illegally entered that residence and stolen approximately $25,000 worth of property, including several pieces of home entertainment equipment, jewelry, personal documents, and an undisclosed amount of currency and collectibles.

As a result of the investigation, some of the stolen property has been recovered and additional arrests are pending.

All three suspects were arraigned in Oswego City Court.

Gonzalez was remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bail bond, with a return court date of Aug. 9.

Kennedy was also remanded, in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bail bond.

Kennedy’s charges were waived to Grand Jury and as such does not yet have a return date.

Evans was also remanded, in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bail bond with a return court date of July 26.

Members of the Oswego City Police Department Criminal Investigation Division have been working closely with New York State Police and Oswego County Sheriff’s investigators throughout the investigations which has resulted in the closure of additional incidents in the County of Oswego, for which further charges are pending as well.
