OSWEGO — Oswego City School District voters approved the district’s 2026 Capital Project on Oct. 27, with 80.4% of voters casting ballots in favor, according to a release provided by the Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation.
The $26.5 million project is designed to address building maintenance, safety, accessibility and learning needs across the district. The district said the project will have no additional tax impact on residents and will be funded through state aid, available funds and retiring debt.
Improvements include work at Oswego High School, Oswego Middle School, the Middle School Storage/Toilet Facility, Minetto Elementary School and Charles E. Riley Elementary School.
The scope includes heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and control system improvements; elevator replacements and modernization; security upgrades; restroom renovations; electrical upgrades; masonry restoration; emergency generator replacement; public address and clock system replacements; classroom renovations; playground improvements; and cafeteria improvements.
The project will address facility needs throughout the district while maintaining and improving school buildings for students, staff and the broader school community, the release said.
“I want to sincerely thank the Oswego community for its continued support of our schools and most importantly, our students,” said OCSD Superintendent Dr. Raymond Kilmer III. “The community’s approval of this project is an important step in our ongoing efforts to maintain and improve our school facilities for current and future generations of students. These improvements will allow us to address critical infrastructure needs, enhance safety, and create learning environments that better support our students and staff. We recognize the trust our community has placed in us and remain committed to being responsible stewards as we move this important work forward.”
The district described the Oct. 27 vote as an important milestone in its capital improvement planning.
