OSWEGO, NY – At its meeting Monday night, the common Council approved three requests for use of public space.
Jessie Nearbin, owner of a single-family dwelling at 77 E. Cayuga St., wants to install a handicap ramp in public space between the sidewalk and front porch, fronting East Cayuga Street.
Bill Nelson, owner of Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St., wants to build an addition fronting their building on West Second Street.
Lisa Shaw, owner of Creative Development of Oswego, 156 E. First St., wants to install a new port mounted advertising sign with electronic digital display on the northeast corner of East First and Mohawk streets.
Councilors OK’d a request from Scott Sugar, athletic director of the Oswego City School District, for a waiver of the open burning ordinance for a bonfire for their homecoming event on Sept. 30.
The council also approved the demolition and clean up the yard for an unsafe structure (rear building) at 106 W. Second St., and authorized the purchasing agent to seek bids for the work.
Fire Chief Jeff McCrobie’s requests to send three personnel to the Fire Extinguisher Maintenance Training Program being held in Montour Falls on Dec. 3 and 4 and to send one personnel to two training programs in Montour Falls (the first is for Concrete Breaching and Breaking on Oct. 8 and 9 and the second is for Rescue Heaving Rigging on Oct. 15 and 16) were all approved.
Police Chief Tory DeCaire’s request to send four police officers to a two-week Crime Scene and Evidence Specialist Course was also OK’d. It will be conducted in Elmira from Oct. 24 to Nov. 4.
Mike Smith, DPW commissioner, was granted permission to transfer funds.
He wants to move $1,000 from Parks Materials and Supplies Account A7110.0410 into Marinas and Docks Materials and Supplies Account A7230.0410 and $50,000 from Central Garage Equipment Repair Account A5132.0470 into Central Garage Materials and Supplies Account A5132.0410.
Councilors also granted Mary Vanouse, community development director, permission to attend the 32nd annual New York State Rural Housing Coalition Conference to be held Oct. 5-7 in Albany.
The council also approved the sale of property at 155 E. Utica St.
And they released Ronald Shuster of his agreement with the city and agreed to refund his deposit. He was going to buy a delinquent property and both parties couldn’t come to terms in a timely manner.
