MEXICO, NY – Oswego County farmers’ best will be on display Dec. 4.
The Oswego County Holiday Farmers’ Market will be held at the Mexico VFW on Scenic Avenue, just north of the village.
It will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County.
“There is no better way to support the local economy than by buying local holiday gifts. When dollars are spent directly in the community the money is turned over multiple times, benefiting the entire community,” said Valerie Walthert, extension educator.
Visitors to the market will discover great holiday gifts from local agricultural producers.
In addition to finding these local goods, customers will have the opportunity to speak directly to the farmers present at the market, Walthert said.
Santa Claus will stop by between 10 a.m. and noon.
And, during the same time period, cooking demonstrations, using products from the market, will take place. They will be presented by Mark Damon of Maines and Tom Pizzuto of The Greenside Restaurant.
“It should be great. Farmers with the fixings for a great holiday meal as well as those with some décor, gifts and more will be represented,” Walthert said. “There will be many different types of farmers at the market. Last year, we had about a dozen and I expect about the same, hopefully more, this year.”
She encourages everyone to come see what local agriculture has to offer for the holidays.
Supporting local farmers keeps your dollars in the community, supporting the local economy, she added.
The following locally raised and produced products will be available: Ashley Lyn Wine, Snow Valley Honey, Mountain Ash Elk meats, Colosse Cheese, Dancing Goat Farm meats and goat milk soap, Salmon River Alpaca fiber products (such as hats, mittens and scarves), Dylan Sorbello’s potatoes, NY Bold onions, Fruit Valley Orchard apples, holly balls, rose hips, jams, Heritage Hill maple syrup, eggs, Fowler’s squash and wreaths.
