Oswego County Humane Society, Petfinder.com Looking for New Foster Homes

Oswego, NY – The Oswego County Humane Society and Petfinder.com are participating in the national “Foster a Lonely Pet for the Holidays” pet fostering program.

Across the country, more than 13,900 pet rescue organizations are encouraging members of the public to try out fostering (and maybe adopting) by inviting a pet home for the holidays.

These new holiday foster families will take pets into their care for the holiday season and help the Humane Society find new permanent homes for them.

“Our regular foster homes do a great job with providing homes for animals in our adoption program, but they are full right now so this is a way for new foster families to try fostering out without a long-term commitment,” said Barb Capella, coordinator of cat adoptions for the Humane Society. “We hope they get ‘hooked,’ but if not they will have provided a great service to our pets during this important adopting season.”

The Humane Society will provide all needed equipment and veterinary care.

Foster families just provide love and food.

“Fostering pets for the Humane Society is a wonderful family experience,”  said Diane Broadwell, chair of animal services for the Humane Society. “ It teaches children about pet care and responsibility and also about the importance of  giving back to their community.  And it’s fun.”

People interested in making this Christmas a happy holiday for a pet in need or who want more information about fostering for the Humane Society should contact Capella at 315-343-2959 if they are interested in fostering cats or Sue Peterson at (315) 591-2595 if they are interested in fostering dogs.
