Oswego Fire Department Water Rescue in the Oswego River

OSWEGO –  The City of Oswego Fire Department rescued two people from the Oswego River this evening. The pair were reportedly fishing near the Varick Dam and became trapped due to quick rising water levels and increasing currents of the Oswego River.

At approximately 6:11pm, the Oswego Fire Department was alerted by Oswego County 911 of people possibly trapped in the Oswego River, near Leto Island. The Oswego Fire Department immediately deployed Firefighters aboard Marine One and the tandem inflatable boats to start the rescue process. Other Firefighters along with members of the Oswego Police Department attempted a shore-based rescue with throw bags.

Oswego Firefighters were able to traverse upriver with an inflatable rescue vessel and assist the trapped individuals into the boat and back to shore.

No injuries were reported.
