OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Health is supporting an U.S. Army Platoon whose members are serving in Iraq by collecting numerous items that will be sent to the soldiers.

Community members who wish to take part can drop off their donated items in the collection box placed at the Oswego Hospital. The box will be placed across from the main elevators adjacent to the community bulletin board.

Donations will be collected on Thursday, Nov. 8.

Among those coordinating this collection drive is Donna Wilcox, a former Oswego Health employee whose son, Ryan Wilcox, is serving with the platoon.

The items to be sent include any pre-packaged snacks, cookies, candies and chewing gum (No pork products, please); electronic travel games; playing cards and dominos; word searches, sketch pads and other art supplies; books and magazines, stationary, envelopes; postcards; baby wipes, hand sanitizer, lotion (Unscented, please), tampons and emery boards; lip balm, and sunblock, soap and shampoo, aftershave lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shaving cream (no pressurized cans, we can’t ship them), baby powder, foot powder, dental floss, mouthwash, socks (thick and long like jock socks), undershirts; Disposable cameras; Frisbees, soccer balls and footballs; batteries; music CDs and movie DVDs … Christmas lights and decorations for a tree.

Phone cards, they should be “international” and the cards from AT&T work best.

We are hoping to be able to put a book, CD or DVD in each Christmas stocking.

We have some decks of playing cards and card games like Skip-Bo as well as a few sets of Dominoes.

In the event you would like to make a financial donation to help offset the cost of shipping, you can contact Sammie at (315) 934-4040 or Barb at (315) 963-7608.

If anyone is interested in donating old cell phones, chargers, batteries, etc., please leave them in the drop.
