OSWEGO – Oswego Health announced the opening of their newly renovated Lakeview Center for Mental Health and Wellness Friday, January 22; the former Bunner Street facility now located at 29 E. Cayuga St., a few blocks from Lake Ontario.

Oswego Health, always committed to furthering the lives, health and wellness of Central New Yorkers, took the opportunity to redesign their facility to support the increasing challenges of mental health management.

With a $13 million Transformational Grant from the New York State Department of Health, along with the support of community members and local organizations, the new Center was made a possibility.

As the only behavioral health provider that includes both inpatient and outpatient services in Oswego County, Oswego Health focused on constructing their center to highlight this type of specialized care.

The renovated, 42,000 square-foot former grocery store features 32 inpatient beds, a geriatric unit, and eight double/six single patient rooms, complete with private bathrooms. Each unit has outdoor courtyards for patient availability and use.

“Primary Care is a service that we previously did not offer at our old site, so we’re very excited to be able to have that to offer for our patients at this time,” said Director of Behavioral Health Services Kathy Healy. “Mental Health and medical needs go hand in hand, and we really need to make sure that we’re treating our patients holistically, and now we’re going to be able to do that.”

Some of the services offered at the center include Adult Outpatient Services, Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) and Outpatient Primary Care Services for those in need of a physician.

“Many of our in-patients won’t have that connection to a primary care provider out in the community, so, it will be good to have all of their services right here,” said Inpatient Psychiatric Manager Ashley Curtin.

The Lakeview Center for Mental Health and Wellness will open on January 25, 2021, with all in-patient and out-patient services fully operational by January 27.

This new Center, which is a short drive from the Oswego Hospital Emergency Room and beautiful Lake Ontario will truly provide an environment of healing like no other behavioral health facility in the area.

“Patients will find the new location offers a welcoming, soothing, and healing environment that includes secure outdoor spaces and comfortable interior areas,” Behavioral Health Services Associate Administrator Jody Pittsley said. “Also, to assist those that utilize these services [to] become healthier overall, primary care services will be available onsite.”
