Oswego Man Arrested, Awaiting Arraignment On Drug Charges

UPDATE:
The defendant, Richard J. Lockwood Jr., has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, a class B felony; Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, a class D felony; Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, a class A misdemeanor, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, also a class A misdemeanor.

At this time, the defendant is still awaiting arraignment.

The investigation is continuing, with assistance from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration.

Arrests of co-conspirators may be forthcoming, as well as additional charges at the federal level.

OSWEGO, NY – At approximately 5:54 a.m. today (March 4), Oswego City Police executed a search warrant at 8 Niagara St., Oswego.

That search warrant also included The Pet Store, a business located at 388 W. First St., which is adjacent to 8 Niagara St.

The search warrant was the result of an ongoing police investigation into illegal drug activity, and was executed by members of the Uniform Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division and the Oswego City Police Department Special Response Team.

As a result of the search warrant, numerous items of evidence were seized from both the residence and the business, including several long guns, quantities of marijuana, cocaine, prescription medications, and other illegal narcotic substances, approximately $3,000 in cash, and numerous items of drug paraphernalia commonly used in the sale and consumption of illegal drugs.

Richard J. Lockwood Jr., 40, of 8 Niagara St., was arrested.

At the time of this release he was being held awaiting arraignment, while police continued their investigation.

Additional information regarding charges will be released as soon as it becomes available.

Lockwood is believed to be connected to The Pet Store and its day to day operation.
