Oswego Man Facing Rape Charge

OSWEGO, NY – On Friday, at about 7:30 a.m., Oswego Police received a missing person complaint from a man who reported his 32-year-old wife missing.

It was further reported that the victim’s vehicle was also missing and that she had previously been in a relationship with a man whose first name was Scott and who had just recently been released from prison.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Division began investigating immediately.

Based on cell phone trace information, coupled with assistance from the New York State Division of Parole, investigators quickly located the victim’s vehicle at the La Siesta Motel on US Route 11 in Mexico.

Scott C. Southworth, 31, of 43 E. Eighth St., Oswego, was located in a room at the motel along with the victim, according to police.

Further investigation determined that at approximately 3:56 a.m. on Friday, Southworth had arrived at the victim’s residence in the city of Oswego, where he had engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim by forcible compulsion.

Southworth has been charged with first-degree rape (B Felony), and has been remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility without bail.

He is scheduled to appear in Oswego City Court on Aug. 25 at 9:30 a.m.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be filed.
