OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego City Police Department wishes to announce a Traffic Enforcement Initiative funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration with a grant from the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee awards Federal highway safety grant funds to local, state and not-for-profit agencies for projects to improve highway safety and reduce deaths and serious injuries due to crashes.
Consistent with New York State’s ongoing commitment to reduce motor vehicle crashes and their resulting injuries and death’s, the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee is continuing to support a comprehensive grant program entitled “STEP†(Selective Traffic Enforcement Program).
The Oswego City Police Department has identified “Stop Sign Violations†as a significant cause of motor vehicle collisions in our community, and has received $5,200 from the STEP grant program to specifically target the “Stop Sign Violators.â€ÂÂ
The Oswego Police Department will be focusing on Citizen Driven areas of concern.
We encourage anyone who may know of an intersection where frequent stop sign violations occur, to contact the Oswego City Police Department at (315) 342-8120 with the location of the intersection, and any specific day of week or times that frequent violations occur.
