Oswego City Police Investigate A Motor Vehicle Accident at The Rivers End Book Store

On Sunday, January 21st, 2024, at approximately 7:57pm, Officers from the Oswego City Police Department were dispatched to 19 W. Bridge St., The Rivers End bookstore, for a motor vehicle accident. Officers were advised by E911 that a vehicle drove into the bookstore.

Upon arrival, Officers observed a brown colored 2014 Chevy Equinox, that was being operated by Mark J. Kahler, had collided into the side of the building. Based on interviews and investigation, officers determined that Mr. Kahler was travelling westbound on W. Bridge St. when he passed a steady red signal at W. Bridge St./W. First St. A second vehicle, described as a dark colored sedan was travelling northbound on W. First St. through the intersection. Mr. Kahler veered to the right of the sedan to avoid collision, subsequently driving onto the sidewalk and into the front of the Rivers End bookstore.

The investigation determined that Mr. Kahler was not impaired and was not injured as a result of the accident. Mr. Kahler, age 22, of Rome, NY was issued five traffic tickets for passed red signal, moved from lane unsafely, driving on sidewalk, imprudent speed and reckless driving. Mr. Kahler is scheduled to appear in Oswego City Court on 02/01/2024 at 9:30 am.
