UPDATE – Oswego Police, Fire Departments and Oswego Harbor Port Authority Dispatched To The For A Reported Body In The Water

UPDATE – From The City of Oswego Police Department; The Onondaga Medical Examiner’s office has identified the body found in the Oswego River harbor yesterday as Kenneth J. Gardner. Gardner was reported missing by his family on April 16, 2024, and was believed to be the person observed in the river on April 14, 2024.

 

 

OSWEGO – On 5/3/24 @ 6:53am, Oswego Police and Fire departments were dispatched to the Oswego Harbor along the north shore of the Port Authority for a reported body in the water.  The body was recovered and has been tentatively identified. At the direction of District Attorney Anthony DiMartino, the body was transported to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner for an autopsy and positive identification.

An updated press release will be issued once positive identification has been made.

Assistance at the scene was provided by the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department, Menter Ambulance, and the Oswego County District Attorney’s Office.

On Sunday April 14, 2024, The Oswego Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a report of a body in the Oswego River north of the Bridge Street bridge.  At that time multiple marine and air units were dispatched to the scene to investigate.  No body was found in the area and no missing person complaints had been filed.  Subsequent searches of the river, Oswego harbor and Lake Ontario shoreline have continued utilizing marine side scan sonar and drones.

On Tuesday April 16, 2024, at approximately 6:13 pm, the Oswego Police Department received a report of a missing person from the Lock 7 Apartments along East First Street. Family reported that a male, Kenneth J. Gardner, had not been seen since the weekend.

Based on the information received, further investigation it is believed that male in the river was likely Mr. Gardner.

Searches of the river, harbor and shoreline are continuing.
