OSWEGO, NY – Two (three-year term) upcoming vacancies on the Oswego City School District Board of Education will be elected at the May 17 school budget and board of education vote.
Information for prospective board of education candidates in the Oswego City School District:
NYS Education law requires that board of education members:
1. Be at least eighteen years of age;
2. Be able to read and write;
3. Be a citizen of the United States;
4. Be a qualified voter of the district;
5. Be a resident of the school district for at least one year prior to election;
6. Has not been removed from any school district office within the preceding year;
7. Does not reside with another board member of the same school board;
8. Is not a current employee of the school district;
9. And does not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office;
For the May 17, election, petitions must be received in the Office of the District Clerk, 120 E. First St., Oswego, NY, by 5 p.m. on April 27.
Nomination petitions in the Oswego City School District must be signed by at least 100 qualified district voters.
Candidates may wish to secure additional signatures, in case any are invalidated.
All candidates must also file three campaign contribution & expense statements, in accordance with NYS Education Law Section 1529. (included in candidate packet).
A drawing to determine the position of candidates’ names on the ballot will conducted in the district clerk’s office on April 28 at 9 a.m.: candidates or their designated proxies may attend.
The district clerk will act as proxy for any candidate who is not present and hasn’t designated a proxy in writing.
