OSWEGO, NY – At approximately 11 a.m. on Thursday (Jan. 27), an Oswego City Police officer observed a motor vehicle being operated with an expired New York State vehicle inspection sticker.
The vehicle was stopped in the area of State Route 104 east and City Line Road.
Further investigation and field testing determined that the driver, 26-year-old Jodi Daniels, of 37 Lakeview Road, Oswego, was allegedly operating the vehicle while impaired by drugs and that, also riding in the vehicle were an 11-month-old and a 4-year-old child.
The 11-month-old wasn’t in the proper safety restraint, police said.
Daniels was arrested and charged with two counts each of aggravated driving while intoxicated (AKA Leandra’s Law, felony) and endangering the welfare of a child (misdemeanor).
She was also charged with one count of DWAI drugs (misdemeanor) and issued traffic tickets for uninspected motor vehicle and a seatbelt violation.
Daniels was subsequently arraigned by Oswego City Court Judge Shanley and released on $1,000 cash bail with a return court date of Feb. 1 at 9:30 a.m.
Oswego City Police Chief Michael J. Dehm Jr. said, “While this is clearly an unfortunate incident for all involved, we are grateful for the actions of our officer as they may well have prevented something much more tragic, and I hope that such arrests serve to increase public awareness of our never-ending effort to fight the extreme public danger created by intoxicated drivers.”
