Oswego’s Independence Parade Committee Announces Featured Performers

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego Independence Parade will feature The Uptown String Band, a member of the Philadelphia Mummers String Band Association.

The Independence Celebration, which will be held on July 7 beginning with the Annual Independence Parade at 1 p.m.

The theme for this very special event is “Fifty Years of Family, Fun and Fireworks!”

The Uptown String Band is a non-profit organization based in Hulmeville, Pa.

They have been parading in the annual Philadelphia New Year’s Day Mummers Parade since 1938.

The band has taken top honors in the parade in 1957, 1976, and 1977. This award-winning band performs locally, nationally, and internationally throughout the year to fund its New Year’s Day production, and takes pride in entertaining the public with “Philadelphia String Band Music at Its Finest.”

Uptown first recorded the world renowned “I’m Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover,” selling more than 1,000,000 copies worldwide.

The band was originally located in Northwest Philadelphia for many years, until 1990, when it was brought further “uptown” from the city and into Bucks County Pennsylvania north of the city of Philadelphia.
