Police Pursue Man On 30 Mile Chase

Police say a Camden man made a bad situation worse, as a violation of a stay-away order turned into a pursuit in an allegedly stolen car through several Oswego County towns on Saturday.

State Police give this accounting of events:

Raymond H. Smith, 41, of 9282 State Route 13, Camden, was being sought by police for allegedly violating an order of protection against him.  Police allege in a news release that he was sending “threatening communications and text messages” to a woman in Parish.

Police found Smith in a Chrysler PT Cruiser in the area of Peck Road and Centerville Road in the town of Richland.  A check revealed that the car had been reported stolen.

A State Trooper tried to pull Smith over, but they say he instead led them on a 30 mile chase through the towns of Richland, Albion, Mexico and Parish.

Smith’s been charged with criminal contempt, aggravated harassment, felony drunken driving and other vehicle and traffic violations.  He faces more charges from the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department over the vehicle.
