OSWEGO, NY – At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council authorized two public hearings.
Both deal with changes to the city code.
The first, regarding proposed amendments to the Code of the City of Oswego, Chapter 170, Nuisance Abatement Ordinance,
Section 170-2 (A), Public Nuisances Enumerated, will be held at 7:05 p.m. on Aug. 10.
At 7:10 p.m. on Aug. 10 the second public hearing will be conducted.
It concerns proposed amendments to the Code of the City of Oswego, to adopt a new Trespassing and Public Urinating and Defecating Ordinance.
“Normally, when you get points, a year after you get points, they’re dissolved,” Councilor Connie Cosemento (D-First Ward) explained regarding the Nuisance Abatement Ordinance.
Now, all accumulated points will be removed upon the sale of the property to a bona fide purchaser (who isn’t related to the property owner).
Currently, the city has cases in City Court brought against people for public urination under the state disorderly conduct statue. That means any fines collected go to the state.
By instituting a local Trespassing and Public Urinating and Defecating Ordinance, funds would go to the city.
The fines would be not less than $100 or greater than $250 and/or imprisonment for no more than 15 days, or both.
