Public Urged To Take Part In Cleanup Effort

OSWEGO, NY – The public is encouraged to help  clean up the environment for Earth Day, April 22.

“Help take part in a cleanup or project protecting our county’s environment,” said Dick Drosse,  Earth Week Coordinator for the Oswego County Environmental Management Council.

In preparation for the upcoming 186th consecutive navigation season on the New York State Canal System and in recognition of Earth Day 2011, the New York State Canal Corporation in partnership with the Parks and Trails NY, has designated April 15-17 for the sixth annual “Canal Clean Sweep.”

Any interested groups, towns or individuals wanting to help maintain the beauty and keep our Oswego Canal Corridor clean should contact Wally Elton at: [email protected] or (518) 434-1583.

As part of this celebration, the SUNY Oswego Campus/City Relations Committee has scheduled April 16 (rain date, April 17) for participation in the NYS “Canal Clean Sweep” and the Oswego Countywide Earth Week.

All are invited to join this spring cleaning, which will help to beautify Oswego’s canal and lakefront.

Everyone will meet at 1 p.m. on April 16 at the McCrobie Civic Center on Lake Street, adjacent to Oswego’s Breitbeck Park.

Refreshments will be served immediately after the event at about 3 p.m.
