Pulaski Fire Victim Identified

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported working structure fire at the Fish On Motel located on Salina Street in the Village of Pulaski at approximately 3:50 Wednesday morning.

There were five occupants in various rooms of the motel and four were able to escape.

A fifth occupant didn’t make it.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

That person has been tentatively identified as Robert M. Godfrey, 68, who had been residing at the motel for about a week.

The Pulaski Fire Department fought the blaze with the assistance of the Oswego County Fire Coordinator’s Office, Altmar, Richland, Mexico, Sandy Creek, New Haven, Central Square, and West Monroe fire departments.

Also assisting at the scene were NOCA Ambulance, the Pulaski Police Department, the Oswego County Highway Department, NYS DOT, National Grid, and the American Red Cross.

Investigators with the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office and the Oswego County Cause and Origin Team were able to determine that the fire started in Godfrey’s room in an area near a portable electric heater.
