OSWEGO, NY – There are “some great things that are happening in the school district on a regular basis.”

And, Superintendent Bill Crist said they deserve recognition.

At a recent board meeting he highlighted a few of the “great things” that he and other district officials feel everyone should be made aware of.

He cited Garrett Robinson who will be participating in the Tournament of Roses Parade and Chelsea Bartlett who will be at the US Army All American Bowl.

“Their teachers worked tirelessly to provide music instruction to them,” he added.

The Marching Bucs also took part in the 35th annual NYS Field Band Conference Championships recently.

“There are only three bands in New York State that have competed in all 35 of those tournaments and competitions – Liverpool, West Genesee and Oswego,” Crist pointed out.

The high school’s student newspaper continued its award-winning ways, receiving a gold medal rating from the Empire State Scholastic Press Association.

Over all, Crist said, the staff and publication won 15 awards.

“We have had a great many members of our community, corporations, service clubs and individuals as well that have made contributions to our school district,” he said.

The total stands at $28,876 since the start of the school year.

Crist also noted the success of instructional programs such as Family Math Night.

There was plenty to cheer about in sports as well.

“Our football team had a 7-2 record. This is the first winning record that they’ve had since 1995,” he said. “Damiam Williams finished the season with a new school record for touchdowns

Other teams that had outstanding seasons were the swimmers, girls’ soccer, gymnastics and volleyball, boys’ soccer and volleyball teams, he said.

The cross-country team had its best season in years, he added.

Crist also recognized the staff around the district, and briefly touched on the positive things currently under way in the schools.
“I have to applaud the efforts of our students, teachers and administrators for the efforts that they put forth,” he said. “These are just a few brief snapshots of things that are going on in our school district and community, that I think personally help move us from a good school district to a great school district.”
