Scriba Man Killed In ATV Crash

SCRIBA, NY – On Wednesday,  Joseph E. Brown, 28, of 460 O’Connor Road, Lot 2, Oswego, was operating a 2010 Polaris ATV four-wheeler westbound on County Route 4 in the Town of Scriba at 11:10 p.m., according to county sheriff’s deputies.

He reportedly lost control approximately 300 feet west of County Route 29.

The ATV exited the north shoulder of the roadway and went through a small ditch before striking a utility pole, according to the police report.

Upon striking the pole, the four-wheeler reportedly rotated before coming to rest facing east against a pine tree.

Mr. Brown was transported by Oswego Fire Department ambulance to Oswego Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Improper lane usage appears to have been a contributing factor in the incident.

Mr. Brown, who was riding alone at the time, was wearing a helmet.

Also assisting at the scene were members of the Scriba Volunteer Fire Department.
