OSWEGO – The Oswego Health Board of Directors announced today (Dec. 13) that it will begin a search process to replace president and CEO Chuck Gijanto.

The board offered to extend Gijanto’s agreement, but he is unable to accept due to personal reasons.

Gijanto was hired by Oswego Health as an interim president and CEO in September 2015.

The executive committee of the board has been working with Gijanto to organize a search for qualified candidates interested in leading the organization’s health and residential services located throughout Oswego County.

“After 16 months of significant progress at Oswego Health, the board and Chuck have agreed to begin the search for a new president and CEO,” said Adam C. Gagas, chairman of the board. “Chuck will be very involved in the recruitment process and we collectively commit to the community that we will work hard to find the right person for the role.”

The board has created a search committee with Gagas serving as chairman, assisted by Gijanto.

Witt Keiffer, one of the largest healthcare search firms in the country, will serve as the external search firm.

They will conduct a national search with an expectation to retain a new president and CEO by mid-2017.

“Oswego Health has made some impressive strides in the past 16 months and we will continue on the path to renewing the health system,” said Gijanto. “As we work through the CEO search, we will be heavily focused on someone with appropriate experience, who embraces the culture of Oswego Health. The board and senior team are absolutely committed to the path that we are on so everyone can be assured of continued progress.”

In addition to board participation, members of the medical staff, the senior team, directors, staff and community leaders will be involved.

It is the board’s responsibility to make a decision, but stakeholder input will be valued.

Gijanto will continue to lead the organization until the new president arrives and may be available to assist in an orientation of the new CEO.

“Oswego Health has made significant headway under Chuck’s leadership and the board will continue to push aggressively to ensure the wheels of progress do not slow as the search process unfolds,” Gagas said. “The board appreciates the individuals and organizations that have collaborated with Oswego Health and we look forward to continuing to work together now and in the future.”
