Smoke Testing Set For Part Of West Side Sanitary Sewer System

Provided by Oswego Mayor’s Office

OSWEGO, NY – Mayor Randolph Bateman announced that Duke’s Plumbing and Sewer Service will be performing Smoke Testing and Television Inspections of the West Side Sanitary Sewer System.

The testing and inspections are part of the sanitary sewer evaluation survey mandated by the U.S.E.P.A. and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

The smoke testing work will commence on Oct. 14, in the neighborhood of the Third Ward, bounded by West Seneca Street, George Washington Boulevard and Draper Street.

Property owners in the neighborhood will be notified by the contractor (Duke’s) in advance of the work.

This work will be monitored and inspected by a representative from Stearns & Wheler, engineering consultants on the project, as well as the city engineer’s office.

The project inspectors will maintain photographs and records of the testing.

The smoke testing survey will assist engineering inspection crews in locating breaks and defects in the city sewer system.

The smoke you will be seeing is non-toxic, non-staining, has no odor, white or gray in color and creates no fire hazard.

The smoke should not enter homes unless a home-owner has defective plumbing, or dried-up drain traps.
