The average temperature last month was 70.6 degrees.
That is 0.2-degree below average.
“I thought it was going to be worse than that,” Gregway admits. “We rebounded nicely temperature wise.”
The highest temperature was 90 degrees (the first this year) on the 8th and the lowest was 51 degrees on the 5th.
There were no temperature records set last month, Gregway said.
There were 12 days when the mercury climbed to 80 degrees or higher.
There were three times when the overnight low stalled at 70 degrees or warmer, Gregway added. It was 72 on the 9th, 70 on the 18th and 71 on the 19th, he said.
Total precipitation for July, 5.56 inches, was 2.53 inches above average. That pushed the annual total to 29.58 inches, which is 6.66 inches higher than normal.
The greatest precipitation in a 24-hour period came on the 13th (1.74 inches). Another 1.38 inches soaked the area on the 24th.
“Those were the two biggies,” Gregway said. “They added up to more than 3 inches. Without them, July would have come in drier than average.”
The first two-thirds of the month were relatively dry, with the exception of the storm on the 13th, Gregway said.
“The rain and more humidity moved in the last third of the month,” he said. “It was the 5th wettest July in the 40 years that I’ve been keeping records.”
Over all, the wettest is 1992 (9.35 inches). And, just recently, 2002 holds the title as the driest July on record (0.65-inch).
There were 13 days of measurable precipitation (2 spans of 3 days in a row) last month.
One day saw a trace and 17 days had no precipitation at all (with a 5 days in a row streak).
The area saw 50 percent of the possible amount of sunshine. That’s 16 percentages below normal.
The number of cloudy days, 12, was 4 above average.
The number of partly cloudy days, 16, was also 4 above average.
The number of clear days, 3, was 8 below average. They all came in the first part of the month, Gregway pointed out.
The number of thunderstorms last month, 3, was 3 below average. There was one foggy day, which is one above average.
The highest barometric pressure in July was 30.15 on the 16th and the lowest was 29.62 on the 31st.
There wasn’t much wind last month, Gregway said. The highest was out of the north-northwest at a little more than 20 mph.
