Structure Fire In The City Of Oswego Under Investigation

OSWEGO – At approximately 8:30 a.m today, the Oswego DPW crews alerted the Oswego Fire Department of smoke coming from a vacant structure on Mitchell Street. After arriving on scene, Oswego Fire Department personnel located a large body of fire burning in the rear of the vacant warehouse located at 91 Mitchell Street.

Concerns for structural integrity of the building forced Firefighters to initially attack the fire from the exterior. With the assistance of several mutual aid companies, the fire was extinguished and declared out around 11:30 a.m.

The Oswego Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Oswego Police Department, DPW, the Oswego County Fire Coordinator’s Office, Oswego County 911, Novelis Fire Department, Scriba Volunteer Fire Department, Minetto Volunteer Fire Department, and Menter Ambulance.

The Oswego Town Volunteer Fire Department and Minetto Volunteer Fire Department provided coverage for city residents while our resources were at the fire. The NYS Office of Fire Prevention & Control also assisted at the scene.
