LYSANDER, NY – State Police in Lysander is investigating a fatal car crash that occurred at 6:35 a.m. today (Oct. 30) on State Route 31 in the Town of Van Buren, Onondaga County.
A 2003 GMC pickup truck, operated by Joshua M. Menkins, 20, from 9290 Dinglehole Road Phoenix, was southbound on State Route 31 when he attempted to pass a tractor-trailer who was also southbound on State Route 31.
While attempting to pass, Menkins struck a 2005 Dodge pickup truck head-on in the northbound lane.
The operator of the 2005 Dodge pickup, Frederick G. Wilhelm Jr., from Warners, NY, was transported to University Hospital for multiple leg fractures and internal injuries.
His injuries are not considered life threatening, troopers said.
Menkins was pronounced deceased at Upstate Medical Center at 8:02 a.m.
The investigation is continuing.
