OSWEGO – A van jumped the curb outside Man in the Moon Candies earlier today, pushing through the storefront on West First Street, in downtown Oswego, resulting in no injuries.

The business, undergoing recent renovations, had scaffolding situated over the door. The van pushed parts of the platform into the building, breaking several windows and thrusting pieces of scaffolding into the store. The van was driven by an elderly woman.

“We’re at a loss. Certainly this is unprecedented. As a business owner I’ve never experienced anything quite like this,” Man in the Moon Candies Owner Amy Lear said. “We’re very fortunate that no one was hurt, and we really appreciate everyone that has reached out to us – to check and make sure that no one was hurt, and to see what can be done… I’m very fortunate there were no customers, there was nobody walking on the sidewalk, there was nobody in the entryway and there was nobody in here in the immediate area.”

The store will be closed until the windows can be secured and the glass cleaned up. Man in the Moon Candies is expected to reopen sometime tomorrow.
