OSWEGO, NY – The City of Oswego announces an increase in parking violation fines.

The Oswego City Traffic Advisory Committee has determined that, effective Nov. 1, the fines for certain parking violations in the city will be increased as follows:

Overtime Parking has been increased from $15 to $20 with the fine increasing to $40 if not paid within 30 days of issuance.

Original fines of $50 remain the same for Winter Parking Ban violation (1 to 6 a.m.) but will now increase to $100 if not paid within 30 days from issuance.

Original fines of $80 remain the same for Unauthorized Handicap Parking, but the fine will now increase to $130 after 30 days of issuance.

Original fines of $30 remain the same for miscellaneous parking infractions including, but not limited to; Blocking a Sidewalk, No Parking, Green-space Violations, and Trespass Parking, but the fine will now increase to $60 if not paid after 30 days of issuance.

According to Police Chief Michael Dehm Jr. “We understand that, in these times of economic uncertainty, any increase in fines or penalties may seem excessive. We wish to assure the public that our goal isn’t to increase revenue, or to put an additional burden on the already struggling citizen, but rather to encourage voluntary compliance with the regulations, and prompt payment of the fines.”
