West First Street Improvement Project: Planned Work and Traffic Impacts for the Week of January 5

OSWEGO – The City of Oswego is advising residents and motorists of planned work scheduled for the West First Street Improvement Project during the week of January 5, 2025. The work will take place primarily on West First Street between Ellen Street and Murray Street and will require lane closures and temporary traffic detours.

Planned Schedule and Impacts:

Monday, January 5 Work zone setup will take place on West First Street between Ellen Street and Murray Street.

Tuesday, January 6 Work will begin at the south end of the project area near Cooper Electric. Hydrovac operations will occur at 468, 452, and 448 West First Street, as well as 1 Murray Street. o The southbound lane of West First Street will be closed.

o Southbound traffic will be detoured up Murray Street, consistent with previous traffic patterns.

o Northbound traffic will remain open.

Wednesday, January 7 Work will occur at 450 West First Street. A temporary shutdown will be required beginning at 9:00 a.m. Temporary concrete surfaces will be poured at all disturbed locations. o Thursday, January 8 will serve as a weather-delay day if needed.

Thursday, January 8 Crews will pick up the previous closure and continue working north. The next work area will include Pinnacle Builders, Port City Collision, and Brookfield Services. Temporary concrete will be poured. o Work zones north of Murray Street will utilize a southbound left-lane closure.

Friday, January 9 All closures will be picked up in advance of the weekend.

Additional Information:

• The schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions.

• As work progresses north, southbound left-lane closures between blocks will be used to minimize traffic disruptions.

• Some closures will need to remain in place overnight to allow temporary concrete surfaces to properly cure.

• If inclement weather is forecasted, appropriate actions will be taken to ensure continued access for snow removal.

Once this phase of work is completed, the West First Street project will shut down until Spring.

The City of Oswego thanks residents and motorists for their patience and cooperation as crews complete this necessary infrastructure work. Motorists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through construction areas and to follow posted signage and detours.
