Zonta Club Of Oswego Takes Stand Against Gender-Based Violence

Zonta Club of Oswego members say NO to violence against women during a fall 2019 club meeting

OSWEGO – Thirty-five percent of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual violence.

To raise awareness about this important issue, the Zonta Club of Oswego is participating in 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence – an international campaign that aims to end violence against women and girls around the world.

As part of the 16 Days of Activism campaign, members of the local community are invited to attend a virtual event that brings this issue home to Oswego County. The event, presented by Oswego County Opportunities Services to Aid Families, is “That Doesn’t Happen Here: Trafficking in Rural Communities” and is being held on December 10 at 6pm. To register, email [email protected] by December 8 to receive the login information.

Each year during the 16 Days of Activism, which runs from November 25 to December 10, Zonta International encourages its clubs to participate in advocacy efforts that focus on prevention, protection, and prosecution of gender-based violence.

“Raising awareness about violence against women is a core activity of our club,” said Zonta Club of Oswego President Sonia Robinson. “Our county has seen a rise in cases of domestic violence during the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s important that the community is aware of this issue and that we support and advocate for survivors of gender-based violence.”

Join the Oswego Zonta Club on social media to follow the online advocacy campaign: “Zonta Club of Oswego” on Facebook, “OswegoZonta” on Instagram, and “@ZontaClubOswego” on Twitter.

You will also see a number of “orange ladies” throughout the community with additional information and resources. A special thank you for the continued support of the Oswego County Health Department, Oswego County Opportunities, Oswego County OBGYN, Mother Earth Baby, Valti Graphics, Wayne Drug, and our mission sponsor, Novelis.
