OSWEGO COUNTY – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) in the vicinity of the Novelis Aluminum Plant in Oswego, N.Y. to ensure the safety and security of ongoing emergency operations in the area.
Effective immediately and in place until noon on Friday, Nov. 21, the TFR establishes the following restrictions on airspace:
- Radius: 1.5 miles
- Altitude: surface to 2,000 feet above ground level
- Location: centered over the Novels Aluminum Facility
- Purpose: safety and security support for ongoing industrial operational or emergency activity in the region.
All unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) or drones and manned aircraft operations are strictly prohibited within the restricted airspace unless specifically authorized by the FAA or coordinating authorities. Remote pilots are required to review all current Notice to Airman (NOTAMs) before flight and ensure awareness of all temporary restrictions.
Unauthorized entry into Temporary Flight Restriction is a serious federal offense. Individuals or operators who violate this TFR may face penalties such as:
- Civil penalties of up to $27,500 per violation.
- Criminal penalties including fines of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to three years.
- Revocation or suspension of pilot certificate(s).
- Seizure of aircraft, including UAS or drones, where applicable.
The FAA works closely with federal, state, and local partners to enforce airspace restrictions. Operators are urged to exercise caution and comply fully with all published flight restrictions.
