Hastings Transfer Station Re-Opens June 23

OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Solid Waste Department announces the Hastings Transfer Station, located at 1391 US Rte. 11, will partially re-open on Tuesday, June 23.

“The Hastings transfer station has been fully closed since May 11 to make repairs to the trash compactor in its main building and provide maintenance on the recycling compactor,” said Mike Lutestanski, director of Oswego County Solid Waste. “Unfortunately, we experienced a fire on site just days later, so it’s taking a little longer to get everything fully up and running.

“For now, our recycling compactor has been repaired and we’ll go back to processing recyclable materials and trash through the recycling building until we can get the garbage compactor replaced and operational again,” he added.

Once open, the Hastings Transfer Station will resume its weekly schedule of being open Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Weekday hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday hours are 8 a.m. to noon.

The Pulaski Transfer Station and Bristol Hill Landfill, which had been open extra days due to the Hastings station closure, will return to their regular schedules.

The Pulaski station will be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

The Bristol Hill Landfill will return to its regular schedule of Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Transfer stations with weigh scales will continue to close their scales a half-hour before the station closes, which is 3:30 p.m. on weekdays and at 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays.

Residents are reminded that the weigh scale at the Oswego Transfer Station has been reduced to 30,000 pounds maximum. This means that vehicles and/or trailer combinations in excess of that weight will have to use a different transfer station.

Also, the Hannibal Transfer Station is a local “residential” deposit with no vehicle weigh scale. Bags are weighed on a pit-side scale with a weight capacity of 1,000 pounds.
