Oswego County DMVs Announce Temporary Closure in February

OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announces that it will join DMV offices across the state in a large-scale upgrade that will affect business hours.

The Pulaski DMV office will be closed on Friday, Feb. 13, while the Fulton and Oswego DMV offices will close at noon that day. All three offices will remain closed until Wednesday, Feb. 18. Upon re-opening, the Oswego DMV office will not hold evening hours Feb. 18, but will resume them on Wednesday, Feb. 25.

“Next month, New York State DMV begins the first phase of a multi-year project to replace and modernize its aging technology systems,” said Oswego County Clerk Terry Wilbur. “It’s an initiative aimed at making transactions more efficient, secure and convenient.

“During this stage, the State will migrate about 30 million records to the new system,” he continued. “Our computer systems, software and databases will also be updated to this more unified platform, helping us better serve our residents.”

To launch the new system, the State will temporarily cease all DMV operations throughout the state, including online and telephone interactions, around the holiday weekend to minimize disruptions. The agency will not answer phone calls from 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13 to Wednesday, Feb. 18.

All local DMV offices are required to close during upgrades until the State confirms they can re-open. It is anticipated that offices should be open and operational by Wednesday, Feb. 18; however, some locations could potentially remain closed for an extra day or two.

“We hope the closure is as brief as possible and will update the public as soon as we get notified by the State,” said Wilbur. “In the meantime, all of our DMV offices are operating on regular hours. We encourage people needing assistance with registrations, renewals and other matters come into our offices now.”

Oswego County DMV locations are open from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. weekdays. The Oswego office is open until 6:15 p.m. every Wednesday for evening hours.

New York State DMV has contracted with FAST Enterprises, LLC to help with this upgrade. The software company has implemented similar systems in more than 20 other states.
