Oswego Transfer Station Remains Temporarily Closed

OSWEGO – The Oswego County Solid Waste Department announced that the Oswego Transfer Station, located at 700 E. Seneca St., will remain closed indefinitely following a fire in its main trash compactor building and attached trailer yesterday, Aug. 24.

“Thankfully, there were no injuries; however, the building sustained heavy damage,” said Oswego County Solid Waste Director Michael Lutestanski, II. “Following the investigation, we will need to make significant repairs, so the facility will be closed until further notice.”

To help with the closure, the transfer stations at Bristol Hill, located at 3125 NYS Rte. 3, Fulton, and Hannibal, located at 1167 Co. Rte. 7, will be open extra days.

The new temporary schedule for each is:

• Bristol Hill: Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the weigh scales closing at 3:30 p.m., in addition to Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon, with weigh scales closing at 11:30 a.m.
• Hannibal: Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., in addition to Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.

Residents are reminded that the Hannibal Transfer Station is a local “residential” deposit with no vehicle weigh scale. Bags are weighed on a pit-side scale with a weight capacity of 1,000 pounds.
