Wind Chill Warning In Effect From 6 P.M. Friday To 1 P.M. Saturday, Winter Storm Watch In Effect From Sunday Evening To Monday Afternoon

OSWEGO COUNTY – The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill warning for Oswego County to be in effect from 6 p.m. tonight to 1 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday January 15. It has also issued a winter storm watch from Sunday evening through Monday afternoon.

NWS warns that for the wind chill warning, dangerously cold wind chills are expected. Wind chills as low as 35 below zero.  The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. This is a potentially dangerous situation to be outdoors. If you must be outside, be sure to cover all exposed skin. Frostbite can occur in 15 minutes or less with apparent temperatures of 25 below zero or colder.

For the winter storm watch, heavy snow is possible. Total snow accumulations of 9 inches or more possible. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Begin needed preparations at home or with your vehicle. Travel may become difficult, so plan accordingly.

Today – Scattered flurries. Mostly cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 13 by 5 p.m. Wind chill values as low as -5. Blustery, with a north wind around 21 mph.

Tonight – Scattered flurries before 4 a.m., then a chance of light snow after 4 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 0. Wind chill values as low as -20. Blustery, with a north wind 18 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Saturday – A chance of light snow before noon, then scattered flurries after noon. Mostly cloudy and cold, with a high near 7. Wind chill values as low as -20. North wind 10 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Saturday Night – A slight chance of flurries before 9 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 1. Wind chill values as low as -15. North wind 5 to 8 mph becoming southeast after midnight.

Sunday – Sunny, with a high near 21. Southeast wind 9 to 13 mph.

Sunday Night – Occasional snow, mainly after 10pm. Low around 17. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Monday – Snow. High near 28. Chance of precipitation is 100%.
