OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego Health Foundation has been presented with a generous donation from NRG’s Oswego Harbor Power that will help enable the health system to purchase a new fixed Magnetic Resonance Imaging to be installed next year at Oswego Hospital.
The donation was made as NRG employees have needed this imaging service at Oswego Hospital previously and wanted to support the purchase of the new advanced MRI.
The new equipment is cutting edge when depicting and clarifying diseases of the brain, spine, liver, pancreas, kidney, uterus and other soft-tissue organs.
It is also often invaluable for many orthopedic diagnoses such as knee meniscal tear or shoulder rotator cuff injury.
As part of its equipment purchase, Oswego Hospital is also upgrading its MRI breast coil to the most advanced one available.
This technology is able to create consistently high-quality, high resolution images.
Breast MRI is especially useful in detecting cancers earlier in patients at high risk when compared to other medical imaging testing.
Those at risk may have a family history, a positive genetic testing or dense breasts.
“Area women will certainly benefit from the new improved MRI breast coil,” said surgeon Allison A.N. Duggan, Oswego Hospital vice president and chief operating officer. “This equipment is simply the best when it comes to determining whether a mass is present or not.”
The new technology will be installed in a new MRI suite in the medical imaging department at Oswego Hospital.
