Catherine K. Barnard, 92, former Phoenix, NY resident, went to be with Jesus for Christmas on Tuesday December 22, 2009.
Born in Liverpool to Charles and Clara Weller Kretchman. Catherine graduated form Liverpool High School, Syracuse University and Columbia University in New York City. She was a home economics teacher 1941 – 1953, teaching in Antwerp, NY and at the Cherry Street School in Phoenix.
Catherine was also a co-owner and secretary of the The Phoenix Press from 1949 – 1999. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star # 172, Phoenix; VFW Auxiliary Post # 5540, Phoenix; and the Phoenix Senior Citizens. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Edward S. Barnard in 1978.
Surviving are her daughter, Barbara (Gerardo) Reyes; of Phoenix; two grandchildren, Bethany (Ken) Case and Scott E. Reyes of Phoenix; two great-grandchildren, Cathy and Aaron; a sister, Cora Melvin of Liverpool; two nieces and one nephew.
Services are at 1 pm on Sunday December 27, 2009, at the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, Phoenix, with Pastor Richard S. Yost, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clay officiating. Interment in Pine Plains Cemetery, 8686 Henry Clay Blvd., Clay, NY. One calling hour from 12 noon until 1 pm before the service at the funeral home, 431 Main St.
