OSWEGO, NY – Cathleen M. Schaffer, 89, and a resident of Bishop Commons and formerly of 165 E. Seventh St. in Oswego, died Monday morning Aug. 4, 2008, in Oswego Hospital.
She was born in Oswego and was the daughter of the late John and Irene Meagher Schaffer.
She was educated in Oswego schools and received her BS in Education from Syracuse University.
She had also taken additional courses at SUNY Oswego.
Miss Schaffer was a teacher in the Oswego City School District for many years, retiring in 1975.
She enjoyed traveling and playing bridge.
She was a member of the Oswego County Retired Teachers Association and a communicant of St. Peter’s Church.
Miss Schaffer is survived by several nieces and nephews, Harold Pierson, Sally Torba, John Schaffer, Susan Page, Patrick Schaffer, Timothy Schaffer, Patricia Schaffer, David Schaffer, Peter Schaffer, John Schaffer; and many great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased a sister, Eileen Pierson; and two brothers, John Schaffer and James Schaffer.
Funeral services will be Thursday 8:30 a.m. from the Dain-Cullinan Funeral home and at 9 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church.
Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Wednesday 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
