Constance “Connie” DeSantis, 78, of Oswego died Saturday in University Hospital.

She was born in Fulton, the daughter of the late Louis and Mary Bevacqua, and she has been a resident of Oswego since 1953. Connie was a registered nurse for the Oswego Hospital; in addition she worked for the Oswego City School District as the secretary for the Athletic Director, and retired in 1996 as a secretary at Frederick Leighton Elementary School. Connie was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, and founded the St. Joseph’s Prayer Line.

She was a member of the Clerical Association of Oswego Schools, and Frederick Leighton School Retirement Club. Connie was a Red Cross volunteer, and volunteered at the McManus Christmas Project.

Her grandson Stephen Thomas, and her sister Mary Louise Bevacqua, SMA, predeceased her.

Connie is survived by her husband of fifty-six years Phil DeSantis of Oswego, and their children Phil (Bev) DeSantis Jr. of FL, Mark (Sandy) DeSantis of Fulton, Mary (Bob) Thomas of Fayetteville, Fran (Amy) DeSantis of PA, John (Nichole) DeSantis of LA. In addition to her husband and children her seven grandchildren, Laura, Andi, Nick, Crissy, Elizabeth, Melissa and Iriel, and three great grandchildren Johnny, Shane, and Haille survive her.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Oswego, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home 147 West Fourth Street Oswego.
